In the 16th century, Portuguese Jews fled from the Inquisition and took refuge in this little town of the Basque country. They knew how to make chocolate and transmitted their know-how to the inhabitants of Bayonne.
The art of home-made chocolate has become a local tradition: they’ve been chocolate makers from father to son.The chocolate days are consecrated to chocolate-soaking and chocolate-tasting sessions.
