An interview of Julian Somers
He came here, loved it, and chose to stay
July 2010 - Three questions to Mr Julian Somers
, who lives and works in Lescar, near Pau.
Julian Somers has chosen to live in Lescar. He explains why he loves the place so much.
- Why did you choose to live in Bearn ?
Because my wife’s French ! And because she lived in Pau when I met her. We first settled in Pau and then in Lescar in 1990.
- Which are your favourite places around ? Where do you like to go for a walk or for a week-end ?
I don’t have a favourite place because I like every place very place very much. There are loads of great areas to go to. You can do ski de randonnée or mountain climbing in the mountains. I haven’t been everywhere though ! I would say anywhere in the Pyrenees. Maybe more specifically Louvie-Juzan, Laruns or the Cirque of Gavarnie.
- If someone had little time to spend in Bearn, which typical place would you advice him to go to ?
Well he could go pretty much anywhere if he’s got a car ! The Brits used to go to Barèges a lot to go skiing in Bigorre, it’s a very nice village. But I think Laruns would be an excellent place in the Ossau valley. I know there are very nice chambres d’hôtes around there, they’ve got excellent cheese, it’s a typical village !
