June 2010 - An interview with Philip Dawson, who runs the Hotel Saint Charles in Biarritz 

Philip Dawson has chosen to live in Biarritz. He explains why he enjoys the place so much.

. How come you chose to run a hotel in Biarritz ?
- I’ve been living in Biarritz for quite some time. I am a petroleum ingeneer and I have done twenty years out and about around the world with always a base here, because my family had retired in Biarritz. My mother is French, her sister lives in Bidart. An opportunity came out to run a hotel and I chose to buy the one I am running at the moment. I have chosen to live in Biarritz basically because of the quality of life here.

. How long have you been living here in the Basque country ?
- I have been running this hotel for eleven years but I have been living in the Basque country for 30 years now. I was born in England and did my school years there, but I always had a base in Biarritz.

. What do you particularly enjoy here ?
- I enjoy the Basque country for its wealth, its beautiful places, the ocean, the green plains, the rivers, the mountains, within an hour of ski resorts in the winter, the high quality of life, the children love it here. The four seasons are well defined. It gets cold in winter, it gets warm in summer. I like the mountains near Sare, I like Bidarray, the lower Pyrenees. And of course, I particularly love Biarritz !
