Golf of Chantaco

Golf of Chantaco in Saint Jean de Luz
One of the most celebrated courses on the Basque coast, Chantaco was created in 1928 by the architect Harry Colt.

Half-way from Saint-Jean-de-Luz and the picturesque village of Ascain, the golf lays out in woods along the Nivelle river, overlooked by the foothills of the Rhune mountain.

A 18 hole course 5 833 meters long par 70, Chantaco, held by champion René Lacoste’s family, is always named as one of France's top 50. It offers two distinct nines, with one carved through a tree-fringed valley and the other dominated by water features.

Although rather hilly, the most tiring thing about Chantaco golf course is not the walking but trying to avoid the traps. It gives the impression of a quiet day's golfing, but even the most ambitious golfer will find it more than a handful.
Often tight with a few formidably sloping fairways and small greens, the course demands precision more than length off the tee.

The golf also has a bar, a restaurant and a pro shop.
