Basque Haute Cuisine

Basque Country home to the haute cuisine

Haute cuisineCookery is one of the things the Basques do best. The Basque region is recognised world wide for its traditional cuisine as well as for the imagination of its nouvelle cuisine.

Rated internationally among the  gourmets…the Basque table is famous for its refined native spicing and superb selection of fresh local produce.

As the Basques are decendants of fishing folk, the cuisine is fundamentally based on seafood, with hake and bacalao a dried salt cod as familiar favourites. The savoury ingredients used to spice these and other seafoods and meats are typically garlic, peppers and olive oil.

It is not by accident that many of the finest chefs are found here, as the Basque gastronomes have been perfecting their finest culinary delights for over a hundred years.
