The Basques salute their colours with pride. Cars are abundantly decorated with local stickers, banners and flags...and the number 64 (the highly held deparmental number of the Bearn-Basque Country). During festive moments inhabitants dress uniquely in red (often a bandana) and white. The famous 'fete' of Bayonne is an amazing bravura of red and white!
The traditional houses celebrate all three colours in vivacious and harmonious combinations of red white and green.
Though Switzerland and Bayonne both enjoy chocolate making and despite the possible Celtic connections with this region…neither are fitting answers!
The Basque Country is neighbour to the magnificent country of Spain. The emblem of the Toro (Madrid) is evidence to the close ties held between the two lands. The culture is indeed a beautiful combination of French and Spanish lines.
