Pau

An elegant city rich in natural and cultural charm situated on the fringes of the Pyrenees.  Pau is one of the largest and well known Bearn cities.

Now the fourth capital of Bearn, the city had humble beginnings. Originally used as a crossing for flocks, later as a defensive site for Gaston Febus.  Pau became famous for the quality of its temperate climate.  Scientifically found to be healing by the British, the city became a therapy base for the noble. Many wealthy foreigners would follow, making Pau their home.


The history of viscountcy is marked in the beautiful gathering of architectural styles. There are extravagant villas, fabulous gardens, towering cathedrals, castles and other and richly decorated landmarks.
